Evangelium Luc 10:1-9

Gospel Luke 10:1-9
At that time, the Lord appointed seventy-two others, and sent them forth two by two before Him into every town and place where He Himself was about to come. And He said to them, The harvest indeed is great, but the laborers are few. Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send forth laborers into His harvest. Go. Behold, I send you forth as lambs in the midst of wolves. Carry neither purse, nor wallet, nor sandals, and greet no one on the way. Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house!’ And if a son of peace be there, your peace will rest upon him; but if not, it will return to you. And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they have; for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house. And whatever town you enter, and they receive you, eat what is set before you, and cure the sick who are there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God is at hand for you.’

FROM THE HOMILY BY DON ENRICO RONCAGLIA (**)

Today we celebrate St. Luke the Evangelist, born in Antioch of Syria, of pagan parents, learned medical science and, in order to perfect his knowledge, undertook several trips to Greece and Egypt.

He then went to Troas to practice his profession as a doctor: but here the Lord was waiting for him for another greater mission, that of an apostle. Saint Luke gave us a lot of news about the baby Jesus and his family. Saint Luke speaks a lot of the mercy and meekness of Jesus.

He was an educated person, of Greek culture and language, and a doctor from Antioch. We find him together with San Paolo in Rome.

He is also the author of the Acts of the Apostles, where he deals with St. Peter and St. Paul. His testimony is therefore precious.

We ask for his intercession for the church in this time of transition.

We must belong to the next era. We must not cry and complain about the present difficulties but sow the seeds of the new Church that will soon be born.

There are already signs not only in Italy but all over the world. We will be the first disciples of the new age.

We therefore ask the intercession of St. Luke so that we can have the light of the Holy Spirit in our hearts!

Praised be Jesus Christ! Always be praised!
