“Non temere, piccolo gregge, perché è piaciuto al Padre vostro di dare a voi il regno” ci dice oggi il Signore.
Ma come fare per raggiungere il Regno? San Pietro D’Alcantara ci indica la via.
San Pietro d’Alcantare (1499-1562) nasce ad Alcantara, piccola città dell’Estremadura, ai confini con il Portogallo, padre spirituale di Santa Teresa D’Avila. E’ un francescano che (come poi Santa Teresa) voleva attuare una riforma dell’ordine francescano. Durante la sua vita da l’esempio della più severa penitenza e della più dura povertà (il suo movimento e’ detto “degli Alcantarini”). Ma talvolta questo stile si imbatte con la resistenza di alcuni confratelli.
Noi siamo i primi a sfuggire i sacrifici e le mortificazioni. Ma le apprezzeremmo molto di piu’ se sapessimo quanto merito ci possono attribuire. Ogni giorno dobbiamo combattere contro le tentazioni. Satana ci ricatta se non cediamo alle tentazioni.
Noi dobbiamo sconfiggerlo con l’eroismo nella battaglia, riuscendo a sfuggire alle tentazioni. Non possiamo confidare soltanto nell’aiuto divino (la misericordia). Dobbiamo dare il nostro contributo. Occorre essere severi con noi stessi.
Occorre quindi un impegno eroico.
Questa la via per raggiungere la salvezza!
Sia lodato Gesu’ Cristo! Sempre sia lodato!

Do not be afraid, little flock, because it is your Father’s pleasure to give you the kingdom” the Lord tells us today.
But how to reach the Kingdom? San Pietro D’Alcantara shows us the way.
San Pietro d’Alcantare (1499-1562) was born in Alcantara, a small town in Extremadura, on the border with Portugal, the spiritual father of Saint Teresa of Avila.
He is a Franciscan who (like Santa Teresa later) wanted to implement a reform of the Franciscan order. During his life he gave the example of the most severe penance and the most severe poverty (his movement is called “of the Alcantarini”).
But sometimes this style comes up against the resistance of some confreres. We are the first to escape the sacrifices and mortifications. But we would appreciate them much more if we knew how much credit they can attribute to us.
We have to fight against temptation every day. Satan blackmails us if we don’t give in to temptations. We must defeat him with heroism in battle, managing to escape temptation. We cannot trust only in divine help (mercy).
